Indonesian Designers Take the Spotlight at SaloneSatellite 2026

Milan, April 2026 — From thousands of global applicants, only a select few are chosen to exhibit at SaloneSatellite, part of the prestigious Salone del Mobile Milano. This year, three Indonesian design studios proudly take part, supported by Ekraf RI, marking a significant step for the nation’s creative industry on the global stage.

Representing Bali, Studio Banda, led by Cokorda Suryanata and Frans Sihombing, presents a series of timeless furniture pieces, including an espresso stool crafted from innovative coffee-based biomaterials offering a fresh perspective on sustainable design.

From Jakarta, Cynthia Margareth of Mergrath Design showcases the Crafting Contours collection, highlighted by the Kambra Lounge Chair. The piece draws inspiration from the Sumba horses of the Puru Kambera savanna, translating cultural narratives into sculptural, contemporary forms.

Meanwhile, Zulyo Kumara explores a bold and diverse material palette, presenting works that range from traditional rattan craftsmanship to industrial perforated steel bridging heritage with modern experimentation.

Together, these designers represent a new generation rooted in identity while embracing innovation. From heritage-inspired storytelling to breakthroughs in sustainable materials, their presence at SaloneSatellite 2026 underscores Indonesia’s growing influence as a dynamic force in the global design landscape.
