About

Indonesia Design Week

Indonesia Design District (IDD) PIK2 is set to boost Indonesia's home and living industry with its vision of becoming a comprehensive design ecosystem. Moving beyond its identity as a commercial retail hub, IDD is dedicated to fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainability within the design community. This initiative will be celebrated by the highly anticipated launch of the 2024 Indonesia Design Week (IDW), a 10-day event scheduled from October 10 to 20. Moreover, IDW marks the grand opening of IDD, following its soft launch to the public in September 2023.

With this upcoming flagship event, IDD seeks to shift away from being seen as merely a retail lifestyle space. Instead, it aims to become a vibrant, dynamic design center for the home and living sector—one that actively connects stakeholders, promotes collaboration, and drives sustainable growth. The launch of Indonesia Design Week will symbolize this transformation, offering a global platform for industry professionals, artisans, designers, and consumers to engage in meaningful dialogue and partnership.

A key objective of IDD is to educate the local market on various aspects of design, including interior design, building materials, and textiles. By bringing together experts and enthusiasts, IDD aims to bridge knowledge gaps and introduce the latest trends and innovations. Theevent will showcase how design impacts not only aesthetics but also sustainability and functionality.

Beyond its exciting lineup of events, IDW champions collaborations with prominent curators, including Alvin Tjitrowirjo and Santi Alaysius. Alvin, the award-winning Indonesian product designer, founded his studio, alvinT, in 2006. His works have graced prestigious exhibitions worldwide, from Maison et Objet in Paris to Salone del Mobile in Milan and DesignArt in Tokyo. Renowned for bringing Indonesian flair to the international furniture design scene, he is celebrated for his innovative approach and strong connection to his cultural heritage. Likewise, Santi Alaysius, the co-founder of Domisilium Studio, established her name with multiple awards for her designs of the Waldorf Astoria Chicago hotel. A Art Institute of Seattle and Illinois Institute of Art graduate, Santi has worked on high-profile projects, including Jennifer Lopez's New York home, Kosenda Hotel Jakarta, and Artotel Yogyakarta. With her visionary creativity, Santi continues to leave an indelible mark on the global design landscape, setting a new standard for Indonesia's burgeoning creative industry.

To commemorate this milestone, IDD's tenants will host individual events and art installations, each contributing to a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere. Communal activities will also take place in the IDD's event halls from Town Hall, Market Hall, and Mandapa Hall, making Indonesia Design Week an inclusive experience for all. From workshops, roundtable discussions, design talks, to interactive displays and workshops, every element of the event will highlight the diverse potential of Indonesia's design landscape.

Indonesia Design Week's success is supported by esteemed organizations such as the Indonesian Society of Interior Designers (HDII), the Indonesian Architects Association (IAI), the Indonesian Product Designers Association (ADPI), the Association of Graphic Designers (ADGI), and Visual Merchandising Indonesia (VMID). Their involvement reflects a collective commitment to elevating Indonesia's design standards and fostering long-term industry growth.

With an exciting lineup of activities, workshops, and exhibitions, IDD and Indonesia Design Week promise to be a catalyst for Indonesia's design community.
