Expanding Global Reach: IDD PIK 2 Showcases Indonesian Design in Milan
Indonesia Design District (IDD) PIK 2 held a press conference on Thursday, April 9, 2026, to announce its participation in the international design exhibition Salone del Mobile Milano 2026, which will take place from April 21–26, 2026, in Milan, Italy. Through this initiative, IDD PIK 2 will bring a number of Indonesian brands and designers to the global stage as part of its effort to expand the international exposure of the country’s design industry.
CEO of IDD PIK 2, Ipeng Widjojo, stated that this participation represents a strategic step toward building a globally competitive design ecosystem.
“We aim to create an ecosystem that enables Indonesian design products to gain wider recognition and compete in the global market,” Ipeng said during the event held at Elmirai Showroom, PIK 2.
He added that IDD’s vision goes beyond showcasing products, focusing instead on connecting key players across the industry—from designers and brands to manufacturers—to strengthen the overall foundation of Indonesia’s design sector.
At Salone del Mobile Milano 2026, IDD PIK 2 will present the “House of Indonesia” pavilion, highlighting an integrated design ecosystem. The pavilion will emphasize Indonesian identity through material exploration, craftsmanship, and creative innovation.
Curator of the IDD Pavilion, Alvin Tjitrowirjo, explained that the curation process focuses on showcasing a diverse range of design approaches.
“Our strategy is to highlight the variety of expertise among Indonesian designers—from craftsmanship to conceptual thinking—while creating harmony within that diversity,” he said.
Meanwhile, the pavilion’s interior design is created by Santi Alaysius of Domisilium Studio, featuring a spatial concept that emphasizes material exploration and visual storytelling to reflect the collaborative spirit of Indonesia’s design ecosystem.
In addition to participating brands, several Indonesian designers will also take part in SaloneSatellite, a platform dedicated to emerging talents in the global design industry. IDD is also providing support for the logistics and shipment of works to Milan.
Representing the government, Sabar Norma Megawati Panjaitan expressed appreciation for IDD PIK 2’s initiative in bringing Indonesian designers to an international platform. She noted that this participation reflects the growing global recognition of Indonesian design.
“This is both a source of pride and a clear sign of the government’s commitment to supporting and strengthening the national creative ecosystem,” she said.
The initiative is supported by several institutions, including Kementerian Ekonomi Kreatif, Kementerian Perdagangan Republik Indonesia, Indonesia Design Development Centre, Indonesian Trade Promotion Center Milan, and Kedutaan Besar Republik Indonesia di Roma.
Through its participation in Salone del Mobile Milano 2026, IDD PIK 2 aims to open new collaboration opportunities, expand its international network, and further strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global design industry.
