Indonesia Design District Strengthens the National Design Ecosystem Through Ekraf Design Festival 2025 Visitation

Indonesia Design District (IDD) strengthened the national design ecosystem through its visitation program at Ekraf Design Festival 2025, bringing together young designers, mentors, and industry leaders for direct exposure to real design practices!

Jakarta, 17 November 2025 — Strengthening creative collaboration across disciplines, Indonesia Design District (IDD) participated in the Ekraf Design Festival 2025 through a visitation program held on Sunday, 16 November 2025. The activity was attended by nearly 40 participants, including 20 selected designers from various disciplines, mentors, and members of the Steering Committee representing professional associations such as IAI, HDII, ADPII, ADGI, and AIDIA.

The visitation was designed as a field study demonstrating how a design ecosystem operates in real life—within the contexts of retail, brand development, and product standardization. When examined further, this initiative reinforces the belief that strategic collaboration between the industrial sector and educational programs can accelerate the growth of Indonesia’s creative talent.

Throughout the program, participants visited several IDD tenants reflecting diverse design approaches and industrial specializations, including Viro, Emporium Marble, Saniharto, Kias Djalin, Fredhelligh, Manawa, Alvin T, Malinda, and Luar Living. Each tenant provided a distinctive perspective on the design process—from material processing and interior concept development to the production of internationally standardized furniture. IDD’s curation approach highlights how each brand contributes uniquely to Indonesia’s design industry value chain.

During the discussion session, the IDD team presented the district’s development strategy as a community hub that integrates design retail, creative activities, and annual collaborative programs such as Indonesia Design Week. By connecting talent, brands, material suppliers, and professional communities within one space, IDD aims to build an ecosystem that supports creative experimentation as well as business opportunities.

This visitation also served as an important component of the Design Camp under the Ekraf Design Festival—acting as a platform that connects young designers with senior mentors through co-creation workshops, case studies, and firsthand field observations. The format enables participants not only to learn design theory but also to understand how design decisions are applied within real industry practice.

The collaboration between IDD and Ekraf Design Festival reinforces their shared commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s creative talent. By providing direct access to a rapidly growing industrial environment, both parties are working to cultivate a generation of designers capable of operating on global standards while maintaining a strong sense of local identity.

Moving forward, IDD hopes to continue expanding collaborations through workshops, exhibitions, creative discussions, and other annual initiatives. IDD remains committed to providing a space that supports the growth of the creative industry and strengthens Indonesia’s position in the international design landscape.

“We believe that supporting educational programs and cross-disciplinary collaborations such as the Ekraf Design Festival is an essential part of IDD’s vision to become the center for the development of Indonesia’s design industry,” stated Megawati Panjaitan, Director of Architecture and Design – EKRAF.
