Indonesia Presents First-Ever Grant to FAO MuNe in Rome

Rome, April 28, 2026 — Indonesia has officially marked a significant cultural milestone with the presentation of its first-ever grant to the FAO Museum and Network (MuNe) in Rome. The donated piece, Kaya Rattan Dining Chair, is a work by Indonesian designer Zulyo Kumara, representing the nation’s commitment to showcasing its design excellence on a global stage.

The handover ceremony was conducted by Tika Wihanasari, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Rome, alongside the designer himself. This gesture symbolizes a growing cultural exchange between Indonesia and international institutions through design and craftsmanship.

Prior to this recognition, Zulyo Kumara gained international attention at SaloneSatellite, part of the prestigious Salone del Mobile Milano held in Milan from April 21–26, 2026. His participation highlighted Indonesia’s emerging presence within the global design landscape.

The Kaya Rattan Dining Chair reflects a thoughtful exploration of Indonesia’s rich weaving traditions. Crafted from natural rattan, the piece honors the legacy of local artisans while reinterpreting their craftsmanship through a refined, contemporary lens. It stands as a harmonious fusion of material, skill, and design—bridging tradition with modernity.

This inaugural grant not only reinforces Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy efforts but also affirms the value of its creative industry in contributing to global conversations around design, sustainability, and heritage.
