Insight Trip into New Possibilities with BINUS University
Indonesia Design District (IDD) recently welcomed the Dean, Partnership Management team, and Heads of BINUS University’s Faculty of Design for a visit to the district. The meeting marked an early step toward a potential collaboration between IDD—an integrated design destination that supports design, architecture, interior, and creative events—and BINUS University, one of Indonesia’s leading institutions with a strong design education ecosystem.
During the visit, discussions opened around shared visions and future opportunities, including the possibility of hosting BINUS-led design events and academic activities at IDD. These initial conversations highlighted IDD’s role not only as a design showcase, but also as a platform for learning, experimentation, and collaboration between academia and industry.
As part of the experience, the BINUS team joined the IDD Insight Trip, visiting several brands within the district, including Viro, Alvin T, TACO, Luar Living, Singres, and MM Galleri. Each stop offered different insights into design processes, materials, craftsmanship, and storytelling, providing valuable references for faculty members across interior design, fashion design, and visual communication design.
The cross-disciplinary nature of the visit became one of its key highlights. Fashion design faculty explored sustainable products and fashion-related displays, while interior design representatives gained exposure to furniture, materials, and spatial concepts. Meanwhile, faculty from new media and visual communication disciplines were inspired by the potential of installations and creative activations throughout IDD’s public spaces.
More than a simple visit, this Insight Trip reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s design ecosystem. By bringing academic perspectives and industry practices closer together, this early engagement is hoped to grow into meaningful initiatives—from student programs to future design activations at IDD—supporting a more collaborative and forward-looking design landscape.
